Croatia: below the images is my story of my not so perfect time in Croatia:
I really was thrilled to go to Croatia with my husband. What an epic motorcycle trip this was supposed to be! If you did not read my post on Slovenia then do so now.
So, Slovenia nearly killed me and this epic ride down the coast of Croatia was not to be (for me at least). I was sitting in the back seat of our friends luxurious Mercedes with the air-conditioner blowing feeling anything but luxurious! I was still so out of it. I tried to sleep it off.
I remember good things about Croatia: the beauty of the sea and of the harbor, I even went skinny dipping which for most Americans is not an easy task! We ate great food and all should have been fine. But it was not fine. I will spare you the very personal details but let’s just say that I was very ill at the time. So ill that I was rushed to a hospital. Why is it that you get super ill when in a country so far away from home (USA or my new home in Germany)??? The doctor on call evaluated me and told my husband that if I do not get an operation in the next couple of days…I will surely die! WHATTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Well, that abruptly ended our vacation. I would not get an operation in Croatia….and I could not get back on the motorcycle. So, our lovely friends with the Mercedes Benz…..drove me to the last ferry out of Croatia. We nearly missed that ferry but made it just in time. I gazed at the never ending stars in the sky as I went in and out of thoughts of “what the hell is happening here!” After the ferry ride, we drove as fast as we could back to Germany….Edgar beat us there. They don’t call him ‘Speedy Eddie’ for nothing.
I arrived in the ER in Munich, Germany and let’s just say that the Croatian doctor was a bit dramatic. I did not need surgery. I was very ill…no doubt but I survived and I am okay. However, that was a vacation from hell…for all of us.
I hope to go back to Croatia again and re-write the story. It is such a beautiful country with beautiful people.
